The cathedral in Old Market Square is spectacularly lit up

Farm Fresh Sweetcorn and Wiltshire Chilli Farm have been busy bringing some flavour into Nottingham for this year’s Christmas Market.

The sweetcorn stall is making its debut in Old Market Square, with the Bath-based chilli company appearing in Nottingham for the second year running.

Simon Blundell, 28, manages the chilli stand overlooking the ice rink, and admits that Christmas is their busiest time of year.

“Hot sauce is getting more popular, and everyone knows someone who likes chilli.” The queues indicate that this is an accurate view, with flourishing sales repeating the pattern of their successful first year in Nottingham.

The Trinidad Scorpion sauce is seen on the fierce side of the spice scale, and is sure to leave a venomous taste on the tongue.

Mr Blundell noted: “The best seller has been the hottest thing we make – the God Slayer.” This may only be for the bravest souls, but the people of Nottingham have shown their fearless nature.

Additionally, the Cranberry Kick and Winter Chilli sauces are perfectly designed to accompany a traditional Christmas dinner.

But festive food is not all about the turkey, as people clamour for vegetarian options. Farm Fresh Sweetcorn are new to the scene in Nottingham, with their garlic and peri-peri seasonings proving popular.

Anna Barker is encouraged by the demand for the sweetcorn, veggie burgers and salads offered by her new stand.

“The weekdays can be a bit slow but the weekends get really busy – it’s proven popular with the kids as well.”

Ms Barker plans to do it all again next year, which will bring the finest flavours to Nottingham for Christmas 2016 and beyond.
